Visuals in Vancouver
Born and raised in Germany, I came to Canada in 2008 as a student and have since resided in British Columbia. I feel incredibly blessed to live in one of the most beautiful places in the world.
My educational history includes audio engineering and theological studies, among others. Other fields that I have taken great interest in over the years include broadcast video production, photography, web development, and micro-controller programming (automation). I am also a pianist and musical arranger.Having worked and/or volunteered in church settings for most of my life, I have had the opportunity to integrate my interests in productive ways. After graduation from seminary I worked as a worship pastor for some years. Since 2017 I serve as a Technical Director in Vancouver.
As is likely true for you, the Covid-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on me. Even though I am a natural introvert, the prolonged isolation made it painfully clear that I need at least some social interaction.
In 2020, I discovered that cycling around the city and even just seeing other people helped to ease the loneliness. Since I've always enjoyed photography, I started to take the camera along on my bike trips and began taking pictures of the cityscape, the ocean and surrounding scenery. You can check out a selection here, if you like.
This year I asked myself: what if I challenged myself to interact with people rather than just watching them? And what if, at the same time, I could serve the community and bring a little bit of joy to others, who no doubt struggle with their own challenges brought on by the pandemic?
That's when I got the idea to provide free photography. I made a t-shirt design that announces the service (that way I don't have to initiate the conversation!), wrote the software for the website, and began giving it a shot.
